Panini Recipes – Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate

Peanut Butter, Banana & Chocolate Panini

Peanut Butter, Banana & Chocolate Panini

One of my favorite panini sandwich recipes includes peanut butter, banana and chocolate. I don’t really know if this recipe has a name or not but I know that it’s a delicious sweet sandwich that you’re going to love.

The bread for this panini recipe should be light a spongy. A big old crusty Italian bread is definitely not the way to go when cooking this sandwich. Since it’s sort of a dessert sandwich, you would probably be best to choose a bread that you might choose for French toast. A nice honey wheat bread from the supermarket would be great and that’s how I make it most often. But if you’re making a trip to the bakery, try one of those egg breads that are popular around Easter time.

The slices should be no thicker than a 1/2 inch otherwise it’ll overpower the other foods in the panini.

Spread the peanut butter liberally onto the bread. Next cut up a banana and place the slices on top of the peanut butter. Sprinkle with some chocolate chips and the sandwich is ready to be pressed in your panini maker.

To make this panini recipe healthier, try using natural or organic peanut butter. Look at the ingredients on the jar. If it says, peanuts (and maybe some salt) then it’s a healthy peanut butter. Another way that you can make this sandwich healthier is to use dark chocolate. Recently there’s been tons of studies released that explain how a few ounces of dark chocolate everyday is great for your heart health. I like to buy a nice 1 pound brick of organic dark chocolate from Trader Joes or Whole Foods. When you’re ready to make your panini, break off a chuck and chop it into little chocolate chip sizes pieces.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you’re trying to make the panini more decadent then that’s easy to do also. First thing you could do is butter the outside of the bread slices. When the buttered bread cooks on the hot panini grill it’ll add a lot of flavor. You could also substitute the chocolate for something called Nutella. Nutella is a chocolate hazelnut spread that is sold in a jar. And lastly, to really make this sandwich a scrumptious belly bomber of a dessert, you could sprinkle it with powered sugar after cooking.

Now whether you make the healthy version or the heart attack special version or something in between, you’re really going to love this panini recipe.
