Panini Recipes - Ham, Cheddar and Apple

- Image via Wikipedia
The best part about creating new panini recipes is the experimentation. It’s a lot of fun to mix together ingredients in different combinations and let the heat of the panini grill blend them together for a unique and interesting new taste. The Ham, Cheddar and Apple panini is one of those weird mixes that might not sound too appealing but it’s actually quite good.
Ingredients:
- Honey Wheat Bread
- Ham
- Cheddar
- Apple
- Maple Syrup
- Olive Oil
For this panini recipe, you should use a nice honey wheat bread or a something sweet. As usual, who has the time to make homemade bread, so any bread labeled as “honey” or “sweet” at the supermarket will do just fine. An oat bread would be great to try also. If you do make your own bread, you’ll want your slices on the smaller side. Probably a half inch slice would be the maximum that I would use.
Ham is the next thing you’ll need. Regular ham cold cuts are okay but if you happen to have some leftover glazed ham then your panini will be rocking.
Cheddar is just of those simple ingredients. No special instructions for this one.
Now the apple should definitely be cut into thin slices. You don’t want to take a bite of your sandwich and chomp down on a giant apple chunk. If you have one of those Mandoline slicers, that would be perfect. But if you’re cutting the apples by hand, try to make them a lot less than a quarter inch thick.
Okay, to make a Ham, Cheddar and Apple Panini, the first thing you should do is spread some olive oil on your bread. A Silicone Basting Brush is a perfect tool to use to make sure you don’t use too much. One side of the bread (the outside) is enough. Next pile the ham and cheddar and then add a squirt of Maple Syrup (about a tablespoon). Place in a heated panini grill and let it heat for about 5 minutes.
Ham and Cheddar go great in a lot of different sandwiches. But adding Apple and Maple Syrup and heating them up in a panini grill will give you something special.
