Panini Grill Press

If you’ve had your eye on a few panini recipes for a while now and the only thing that’s stopping you from trying them is the fact that you don’t have a panini maker, then you’re in luck.  You don’t even need a panini maker to make a great panini sandwich.

Panini Grill Press

Panini Grill Press

If you’ve ever worked in a diner like I have, you’re probably familiar with a grill press.  It’s a big chunk of metal that sits on the grill day staying nice and hot.  And the short order cook working the grill will place it on top of burgers, bacon and other fried food to speed up the cooking.  The hot grill press cooks the food from both sides and that helps the cook get his orders out in a timely fashion.

Well if all you have a frying pan or a grill pan you can buy one of these grill presses to help you make panini sandwiches at home.  They even come with ridges now to give you that authentic grill mark look that you’re used to seeing on panini.

I searched through the listings on Amazon and found this Metro Cast Iron Panini Press for a reasonable price.  There’s quite a few more panini presses on Amazon that cost a lot more than an electric panini grill.  They might be nice for a chef or someone who likes to collect pots and pans but this press from Metro is good enough for most home sandwich making needs.

It’s made of heavy duty cast iron and it has a neat looking red enamel finish.  And unlike a lot of cast iron pots it doesn’t need to be pre-seasoned before you use it.

So just like a short order cook, you place the press on top of your panini and you’ll get a nice pressed sandwich with grill marks and all.

Not having a panini maker is no excuse not to enjoy delicious panini sandwiches in the comforts of your own home.
